Go Green

What is Green IT?

Information technology is a heart of every business. But the growing deployment of IT infrastructure accounts for more than 2% of the global energy consumption. Green IT means using this IT infrastructure more efficiently to reduce the energy consumption. Green IT also known as Green computing is the term used to denote efficient use of resources in computing. This term generally relates to the use of computing resources in conjunction with minimizing environmental impact , maximizing economic viability and ensuring social duties. Applying Green IT not only gives sustainable computing but also the cost benefit to the organization.

What is the need to Go Green?

The prediction of Bill Gates about PC in every home has nearly come to the reality. The dependence on IT in homes is not though. But every Business irrespective of its size is relied almost completely upon IT. This leads to heavy consumption of energy.

In the present scenario, world's pace of consuming energy is much more than that of production of energy. This energy is mostly produced using non-renewable resources which are limited. They are bound to get over at some point of time in future. Hence the appropriate steps are needed to be taken at the right time. Switching to Green IT is one important step to tackle this situation.

Applying Green IT also gives the cost benefit to the organization. It may have slightly high initial capital expenses but certainly reduces the operating expenses for the organization to great extent.
